At the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint the European Border and Coast Guard was launched
“In the past two years Europe was turned into an unfenced yard. For a Bulgarian citizen it was problematic to enter Schengen, whereas migrants could pass freely everywhere. We want to turn Europe not into a fortress but into a well-regulated system. There are border checkpoints – when we know who entered and with what purpose, a humane and solidarity-driven Europe will do the necessary to protect them. We want to introduce this kind of order.” That is how Prime Minister Boyko Borissov commented on the decision to create the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, which was launched today at border checkpoint Kapitan Andreevo. At the ceremony were present the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, the director of “Frontex” Fabrice Leggeri, members of the Bulgarian government and ministers of interior of member states, representatives of the European Parliament and the National Assembly, officials from Turkey.
