On March 3, we celebrate a grand day from our long, difficult but proud Bulgarian history. After 5 centuries of yoke, our sacred land attains its liberation and embarks on the way to its Revival, said Prime Minister Ognian Gerdjikov in his speech on the occasion of the National Holiday. On mount Shipka the Prime Minister took part in the solemn marking of the 139th anniversary from the liberation of Bulgaria.
“We pay our tribute to the Bulgarian freedom fighters, the Russian soldiers, the Romanian, Polish, Finish, Belarusian and Ukrainian fighters, whose heroism is highly appreciated by the Bulgarian land. We remember the heroism and the preserved Bulgarian flags in all Bulgarian battles. Our memory makes us a people of proud consciousness and self-determination, because we have strong roots,” said the Prime Minister.
In his words, we mark the Liberation religiously silent and heroically noisy. “We remember the fallen ones and celebrate the feat of the victorors. We are the descendents of an ancient nation. On 3 March our Revival starts, then it passes through the Unification of our motherland and now we build a new free Bulgaria,” added Gerdjikov.
The Prime Minister reminded that on March 3 we celebrate the success of Bulgaria and Bulgarians, here and worldwide. “We lay flowers on monuments in tribute and we shake hands with the pride of a nation that has achieved a lot. We have our moral compass, inherited from our forbearers and it shows the way to freedom and democracy,” said Gerdjikov. He noted that already 10 years we have been within the big European family, where one enters not with money, neither through the backdoor but by rules and standards.
According to the Prime Minister the national holiday for each country is a moment for making commitments. “Let us promise ourselves here, on Mount Shipka – to love Bulgaria as the biggest dreamers in our history, They loved it as a European country, as part of the community of states, respecting human rights, development and prosperity,” Gerdjikov said. He called for: “giving an oath that each of us, whenever one is, will defend everything that we have achieved together on the way to our development. Let us repeat to ourselves that good plans and good investments are important but twice as important is to be unified, so as to be able to fight together to overcome the problems and to cheer in their resolution. Let us say to ourselves that we will preserve for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the morals of our history, pointing out how it has been written – that unification gives strength.” The Prime Minister pointed out that it is a privilege to be born in a wonderful, beautiful and fertile land. According to him, it is important that we take pride that we have our own alphabet and have given it to the Slavs worldwide.
“Bulgaria is larger than all of us. Let us celebrate our country today as part of the world human community, dedicated to peace, the good life and the protection of the planet. Happy holiday and God bless Bulgaria,” said in conclusion Prime Minister Gerdjikov.
Later today the Prime Minister will attend the solemn fireworks as “Narodno Sabranie” Square in Sofia. He will also attend the traditional reception on the occasion of The 3rd of March, given by the President.
