PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV HAD A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH OECD SECRETARY-GENERAL ANGEL GURRÍA

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov had a telephone conversation with the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Angel Gurría. In the course of the conversation, which was requested by Gurría, the two of them discussed the progress in the pre-accession process and the steps that Bulgaria is taking to deepen and structure its cooperation with the OECD. Prime Minister Borissov and the Secretary-General Gurría agreed on the understanding that there is a new dynamic in these relations, which both of them approve.

Angel Gurría is a follow-up to their meeting in July this year in Poznan, Poland. In the framework of the Summit of the Berlin Process for the Western Balkans, Prime Minister Borissov presented to Angel Gurría the Action Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria for the period 2019-2020. The plan reflects the determination and readiness of the Bulgarian government to accelerate its efforts to meet the standards and the OECD membership criteria.

 

OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría noted that our country has good chances and that he is looking forward positively to the Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov presenting the plan during the OECD Council meeting in Paris in September.

 

Prime Minister Borissov confirmed, that Bulgaria continues to actively work on the implementation of the specific activities included in the Plan. The Bulgarian Prime Minister underlined, that after our state receives an invitation to start negotiations for OECD membership, we are ready to further accelerate the work on meeting the specific standards and criteria of the Organization. Prime Minister Borissov also noted that as an EU member, Bulgaria has already fulfilled a huge part of these criteria.
