PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV IN MUNICH: BULGARIA IS IN ADVANCED PREPARATION FOR ALL POSSIBLE SCENARIOS FOR BREXIT

15.02.2019

"Bulgaria is in advanced preparation for all possible scenarios for Brexit. We have already adopted two action plans related to the withdrawal of the UK from the EU - ‘with a deal’ and ‘no deal’". This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at his bilateral meeting with the EU Chief negotiator on Brexit Michael Barnier, which took place in the margins of the Munich Security Conference.

During the conversation, the Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out that we insist on the key role of the European Commission in achieving a coordinated approach among Member States, especially in terms of preparedness for Brexit. "For Bulgaria the rights of citizens come first, including social and health, pensions," added Prime Minister Borissov. He expressed full support for the EU Chief negotiator for Brexit Michael Barnier and congratulated him on the excellent work of the negotiating team.

"The withdrawal agreement is the best possible basis for settling Brexit. It sets a delicate balance that guarantees the rights of the citizens and the business, the EU budget, the integrity of the Single Market and the peace process in Ireland,” Prime Minister Borissov told Michael Barnier. The Bulgarian Prime Minister said that we support the European Commission in its view that the agreement is not subject to renegotiation. "In this context, we greatly appreciate the Commission's efforts to find an acceptable alternative in dialogue with the British side. We hope that the agreement will be supported by the British Parliament,” said Prime Minister Borissov. He expressed firm conviction that, at this crucial moment, the unity of the 27 EU Member States is of utmost importance.
