29.08.2019

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov held a meeting with the newly elected President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who is on a visit to Bulgaria. In the Council of Ministers the two of them discussed various topics from the European agenda and world politics. The visit is part of the consultations that Ursula von der Leyen conducts with the EU Member States leaders before presenting the full membership of the new Commission for approval to the EP.

In July this year, the European Parliament elected Ursula von der Leyen as the future President of the European Commission. She is the first woman, elected as a President of the Commission.

During the last 12 years of our country’s membership in the European Union, strong trust and excellent cooperation between Bulgaria and the European Commission has been established. The constructive interaction with all European institutions has helped our state to carry out its first successful Presidency of the Council of the EU.
