PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV TALKED WITH THE JAPANESE FOREIGN MINISTER TARŌ KŌNO

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Tarō Kōno. In the course of their conversation in the Council of Ministers Prime Minister Borissov noted that Japan is a partner of high priority and a traditional friend of our state. The Bulgarian Prime Minister determined the activation of the high-level bilateral political dialogue as positive and sent his sincere greetings to the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who carried out the first visit of a Japanese Prime Minister to Bulgaria in January 2018.

Prime Minister Borissov expressed his confidence that the high-level meetings will give an additional stimulus to the economic ties, which in turn is a prerequisite for increasing the volume and scope of Japanese investments, as well as the number of Japanese tourists in Bulgaria. Borissov underlined that our state has proven to be a stable and predictable partner with great potential for cooperation.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister put an emphasis on Bulgaria’s interest in increasing its exports to Japan, as well as intensifying the business contacts in areas such as information and communications technologies and automation, mechanical engineering, production of automobile components, construction.

Prime Minister Borissov welcomes the announced from the Japanese Prime Minister Abe initiative for cooperation with the Western Balkans. Borissov expressed the readiness of our state to continue the good cooperation in the official assistance for development of the region after the successful conduct of the Flood Risk Management in the Western Balkans Seminar in Sofia, held in the beginning of this year. The Bulgarian Prime Minister also noted that the Western Balkans were a priority topic in the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council.

In the framework of the conversation Prime Minister Boyko Borissov put an emphasis on the entry into force of the agreements between the EU and Japan on strategic and economic partnership. According to the Prime Minister, this will have an additional beneficial effect on the Bulgarian-Japanese cooperation.
