PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV AND ROSATOM DEPUTY DIRECTOR GENERAL KIRILL KOMAROV DISCUSSED COOPERATION IN THE FIELD OF NUCLEAR ENERGY

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the First Deputy Director General for Corporate Development and International Business of the state corporation Rosatom Kirill Komarov noted the successful cooperation between the Bulgarian and Russian counterparts in the project implementation for the lifespan extention of blocks V and VI of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. According to Prime Minister Borissov, the extension of the exploitation period for the two power units of the nuclear power plant is among the main priorities of the government in the energy field. Preservation of the nuclear energy capabilities will ensure the security of the Bulgarian energy system.

 

During the meeting, the Prime Minister informed the Russian side about the decisions by the National Assembly and the Council of Ministers on the resumption of the activities related to seekeing opportunities for the construction of the Belene Nuclear Power Plant. The conditions determined by the Bulgarian state envisage the construction of the plant jointly with a strategic investor, on market principles and without provision of a state guarantee. "We welcome the decision of the Bulgarian government to resume the Belene Nuclear Power Plant project and will be happy to help with its realization," said Kirill Komarov.
