PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV: WE WANT A PLATFORM TO CREATE A POWERFUL BALKAN DIGITAL ECONOMY

"We want to create a platform with which we will be able to create a powerful Balkan digital economy and make a considerable progress in the coming years." This was stated by the Prime Minister at the fourth edition of the Startup Europe Summit 2018 in Sofia. The Forum is organized by the European Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel. The Prime Ministers of Serbia Ana Brnabic, of Macedonia Zoran Zaev, and of Montenegro Dusko Markovic.

 

During the forum, Prime Minister Borissov reminded that wars were waged for many years in the Western Balkans and stated that today is the moment when we should utilize the potential of young people who have the skills to develop and upgrade the technology sector. The Prime Minister stressed that infrastructure and digital connectivity should be built in parallel. "With the European programs and with these hubs, we want the Balkans to become a center not only for the digital economy. When we talk about railways, highways, and ports, we are also talking about digital infrastructure because this is the future," added the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

 

During his speech at the Summit, Prime Minister Borissov added that the projects on digital infrastructure will also contribute to the development of all start-up companies, will support economic growth, and will improve the living standards of citizens in the region.
