16.02.2019

Trade relations with the United States and the growth of US investment in Bulgaria were among the topics during the conversation with United States Vice President Michael Pence, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told reporters in Munich, where he attended the traditional security conference.

Prime Minister Borissov and the US Vice President also spoke about the achievements of our Presidency of the EU Council and the position of Bulgaria on the situation in Venezuela. Pence expressed his approval for the work of our country on all levels, especially highlighting the actions by the Bulgarian special services. The Vice President also stated his intention to visit Bulgaria this year.

The Prime Minister shared some of the most important highlights from the other meetings he had today in the capital of the German federal province. With EU Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources Günther Oettinger we talked about the reasons why the Bulgarian hub 'Balkan' should happen, said the Prime Minister. "This does not mean more for Bulgaria, the nearly 17 billion cubic meters now passing through Bulgaria to Turkey will cease to transit, and then our pipes will become empty. And it is imperative to restore the balance - to have Turkish stream pass through Bulagia and have the Balkan gas hub. We want to retain what we have at the moment," argued Borissov.

Prime Minister Borissov outlined the huge support for Bulgaria, which had been expressed by Markus Zoeder and added that the Bavarian Prime Minister will visit our country in May this year. Borissov pointed out that Zoeder agreed that Bulgaria needs additional financial support in respect to border security.

Regarding the situation in the Black Sea region, Prime Minister Borissov said that we need to consolidate, to be united in our defense capabilities, to increase the budgets for defense and security, but we must also have a maximum good dialogue with Russia and China. Prime Minister Borissov added that a visit to Bulgaria by the Russian Prime Minister is also planned.
