BOYKO BORISSOV IN MUNICH: BULGARIA IS A VERY LOYAL AND DISCIPLINED COUNTRY

No other border is better protected than the one between Bulgaria and Turkey, said Prime Minister Borissov at the opening of the Munich Conference 'New Ideas for Europe'. He highlighted the efforts and measures, employed by Bulgaria in respect to security not only for its territory but for the European Union.

 

In his speech, Borissov also presented the good economic indicators of the country. "Bulgaria is a very loyal and disciplined country, we strictly follow the Masstricht criteria," announced the Prime Minister and mentioned the recent results from the fiscal policy of the Bulgarian government. "I am convinced that after years of having fulfilled these criteria it is time you admit us to the Eurozone and Schengen. Those who are doing excellently should also receive excellent results for their work," said Boyko Borissov.

 

The Prime Minister highlighted that the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU provides the opportunity not only to raise the topic of the Western Balkans but also to address the relations of the EU with its big neighbors." In respect to infrastructure, corridors 4, 8, 9 and 10 should be started immediately, as well as digital infrastructure. No matter how much you underestimate them, several wars started with the Balkans. The solution here is rapid accession to NATO and the EU," said Prime Minister Borissov and called on Europe to stand united on foreign policy issues.

 

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of good relations between the EU and Turkey and clarified that currently the southern flang of NATO is secured by Turkey and Europe relies on it. "This is why I am very glad that the EU decided to normalize its relations with Turkey. Not only because of the migrants but also for the sake of cooperation and support within NATO," Borissov said.
