PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV AND ANGEL GURIA DISCUSS BULGARIA\'S ACTIONS FOR JOINING THE OECD

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Angel Gurria discussed Bulgaria's actions to join the organization.

 
Angel Gurria expressed his support for the Bulgarian application. It was pointed out that our country adheres to the basic principles of an open market economy, democratic pluralism, the will to reform, and to respect for human rights. High appreciation was expressed for the accelerated rates of economic growth, the low unemployment, the low external debt, and the almost zero budget deficits. Gurria also welcomed the adoption of a roadmap of actions to speed up preparations for joining the organization.

 
Prime Minister Borissov highlighted the consensus in Bulgaria regarding the country's membership in the OECD. He pointed out that it is supported by both the main political forces and the employers' and trade union organizations. The Prime Minister informed about the interdepartmental mechanism for coordination of the accession actions that has been set up.

 
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is an international organization of developed countries which the mission to facilitate cooperation in finding solutions to the common economic, social, environmental, education, and labor market problems. The accession of Bulgaria to the OECD is one of the country's foreign policy priorities.
