PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV AND TONY BLAIR DISCUSSED JOINT INITIATIVES FOR THE WESTERN BALKANS

26.01.2018

“I am very glad to see you and congratulate you on everything you do" - with these words Tony Blair began his meeting with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, which took place during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The former British Prime Minister and now Chairman of the Global Change Institute said he was following Borissov's agenda and activities. “I think you are taking the right initiatives at the right time,” he said, congratulating the Prime Minister on the inclusion of the Western Balkans as one of the priorities of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency.

Borissov and Blair discussed the possibility of using the expertise of the Institute for Global Change and including its event in the program of the Bulgarian Presidency. “You know the Balkans very well and we can, with the assistance of your institute, help them in becoming a place of peace and investment,” the Bulgarian Prime Minister said.

The two also discussed the UK withdrawal from the EU, which they defined as painful for all sides to the process. Borissov voiced the expectation that, despite Brexit, the EU and the UK would remain close partners in the security and economic spheres, on international policy issues, while the rights of EU citizens and British nationals would be fully protected.
