PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV IN ATHENS: WE ARE COMMITTED TO THE UNITY AND STRENGTH OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

"We are committed to the unity and strength of the European Union. Namely as such, we are much more capable, stronger partners for the Arab world. The EU with its values is a role-model that the Arab world can follow in respect to the rule of law, the rights of women and children, especially in places of war, and in respect to freedoms." This was stated by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at the opening of the third EU-Arab World summit in Athens. The Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out that first come the values that we all have to defend in order to work more calmly in the coming years.

 

Speaking at the summit in Athens, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov reminded that the issue about the connectivity of the countries of the Western Balkans was put back on the table during the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council. "I see enormous opportunities for the Balkans as a whole," Borissov said, and noted that the regular quadrilateral meetings with Romania, Greece and Serbia aim to increase the competitivenss of the Balkan region. During the forum, the Bulgarian Prime Minister expressed hope for the completion of the interconnector with Greece for Liquefied Gas by the end of the year and added that this will be one of the highlights during the conversation with the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Varna on 2 November.

 

At the Athens forum, the Bulgarian Prime Minister highlighted the need to create food hubs on the Balkans to help the regions where migrants originate from. "The migration wave that flooded us in Europe and literally broke a lot of countries shows us that we need to think about Africa, about these countries in the world where hunger is a problem," said Boyko Borissov.

 

Addressing the EU-Arab World Summit, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov pointed out relations between Bulgaria and Greece as a role-model for good neighborly relations and excellent partnership. "We have never conducted a policy against third parties. With peace, understanding, cooperation Bulgaria and Greece have always been a role-model of good neighbors, regardless of political systems, regardless of political parties, we know that we have always been and we must always be friends," added Prime Minister Borissov. He added that the meeting in Istanbul of the leaders of Germany, France, Russia and Turkey provided a good perspective to solve the crisis in Syria with political means.
