PRIME MINISTER BOYKO BORISSOV SPOKE WITH KOSOVO PRESIDENT HASHIM THACI

01.03.2018

“We need to take advantage of the moment and focus on the real construction of corridors between our countries - transport, energy, digital,” Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said at a meeting with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci. He stressed that hybrid funding opportunities are being found, through support from various financial institutions and other donors, to invest in the implementation of specific projects. “Connectivity, as well as visa liberalization, will help to increase the number of tourists between our countries and direct business contacts, which will result in a deepening of the trade cooperation in the region,” the Bulgarian Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Borissov reminded of the conflicts in the Balkans in the 1990s and stressed that the most important thing at the moment is to look ahead - what can be done for the region and for its people. “This goal, which has become a top European topic, also means Kosovo's integration. We are aware of the challenges created by the position of some member states on the status, but this should not discourage you,” Borissov said.

The two leaders also welcomed the Strategy for the Western Balkans, in which the European Commission included all the Bulgarian ideas for the development of the region. “This document clearly declares the desire of Europe to develop as a continent of stability, security and prosperity. Kosovo, the Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania and their peoples are given a European perspective and a clear sign that, as early as 2025, those who are ready can become EU members,” added Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.
