Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov was awarded with "Golden Plaque - European Person of the Year" at an official ceremony in Sarajevo. The award is bestowed by the Agency for the Selection and Presentation of Heads of Mission from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Central and Southeast Europe. The Prime Minister received the award for his personal commitment to economic cooperation in the region within the framework of the ongoing International Business Forum.

In his speech, Prime Minister Borissov noted that if there is peace in the region investments are guaranteed to follow. He reported on the good financial performance of Bulgaria and stressed that the country is currently investing heavily in education and training. The Prime Minister once again emphasized the importance of connectivity on the Balkans. "I am happy that all colleagues from the Balkans embraced the idea of infrastructure in the three directions," Borissov said, emphasizing that transport, infrastructure, and digital connectivity should be realized in parallel. He recalled one of the priorities of Bulgarian Commissioner Mariya Gabriel and the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, for the alignment of roaming fees in the countries in the region. "Developing broadband high speed internet in every country will further stimulate the economy," the Prime Minister added.

The Prime Minister said that at the Thessaloniki Summit between Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Serbia, which took place yesterday, discussions were held on the possibility of connecting the Black Sea, the Adriatic and the Aegean Sea through transport infrastructure. According to him, this will bring extraordinary revenue for the region. Prime Minister Borissov also announced the idea of introducing a common electronic system for charging vehicles that pass through national road networks on the Balkans.
