Dimitar Stoyanov - Minister of Defense

Dimitar Stoyanov was born on 28 October 1968 in Svilengrad, Bulgaria.


In 1986, he graduated from the High School in Mathematics in Haskovo. In 1986-1991, he received training at the Bulgarian Air Force Academy – Dolna Mitropolia. In 2001, he graduated from the Command Staff College to Georgi S. Rakovski Military Academy. Also, he is an alumnus of the Maxwell Air War College, USA.


Dimitar Stoyanov started his military career as a diploma engineer technician in the fighter aviation regiment in Uzundzhovo. He held a number of command-engineering positions, the last of which was Deputy Commander for Aviation Equipment and Armament at the Third Fighter Air Base Graf Ignatievo. In 2009, he became the Chief of Staff at the air base. In 2013-2016, he held various positions at the Air Force Command of the Republic of Bulgaria, the last of which was Chief of Staff of the Air Force.


Following Decree No. 44/23 January 2017 Dimitar Stoyanov was appointed Secretary General to President Rumen Radev. In President Radev’s second term in office, he was appointed Secretary General by Decree No. 10/22 January 2022.


Dimitar Stoyanov was appointed a member of the Caretaker Government on 2 August 2022.
