BULGARIA OFFERS GREECE TO TAKE 20 PARENTLESS CHILDREN FROM MORIA CAMP

11.09.2020

Bulgaria offered Greece to take 20 parentless children who had been sheltered in the Moria migrant camp on the island of Lesbos after the devastating fire there. A total of 400 unaccompanied children are among the 13,000 migrants who are unsheltered after the reception center was consumed in the flames.

A number of countries have already offered to take migrants from the Moria camp. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov ordered Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva and Minister of Interior Hristo Terziyski to approach the Greek side as appropriate. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already delivered a note to the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in Sofia to apprise it of its intention.

Today the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Athens received a letter from Giorgos Koumoutsakos,  Alternate Minister for Immigration and Asylum, with a request for assistance to the Greek side with essentials to meet the needs of the displaced Moria camp residents . The letter was sent to the embassies of all EU member states. Bulgaria will join the other member countries to ensure the supplies.
