European Commission Member Paolo Gentiloni assures Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov of the Commission’s full support for Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen

  Commissioner for Economy Paolo Gentiloni expressed the European Commission’s full support for Bulgaria’s accession to the Schengen area and for its efforts to meet the criteria for accession to the Eurozone when he met Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov today at the government headquarters. At their meeting, they discussed issues concerning the reform of the Judiciary in Bulgaria, the fight against corruption and the decarbonization. The issues are of key importance both for the country’s overall integration into the European institutions and specifically for the implementation of Bulgaria’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP).

 

Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov emphasized that the government works consistently on all key issues and addresses serious problems that have been overdue for years in the area of the rule of law and the fight against corruption as well as in the energy sector. The Prime Minister noted that the cabinet acts fully in tune with the European Commission’s expectations for progress and underlined that in the coming weeks the focus should be on the National Assembly where important decisions are to be made.
