Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov: Institutions must work together against crises

10.10.2023

Institutions must work together to make Bulgaria still safer for the people who live here. In the opinion of Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov, this is the main conclusion of the consultative meeting hosted by President Rumen Radev this evening and dedicated to the risks and threats to national security arising from the current conflicts and the measures to minimize them.

The Prime Minister recalled that he had been pleading for unity of action between the government, the National Assembly and the President ever since the first day of this cabinet. This was because the three key institutions together must formulate the decisions pertaining to important issues and together must guarantee their implementation. Acad. Nikolai Denkov praised the cabinet members as it is their vigorous efforts that enable the government to cope with pressing problems like the migrant crisis and the complicated situation related to the flight of Bulgarians from Israel.

The Prime Minister called on all parties that have Members of Parliament and are willing to join a constructive discussion about the current risks and long-term tasks. Many of the decisions are contingent on what the National Assembly does. “This is the only way to overcome the series of crises that have been threatening our country’s national security for a year and a half now,” the Prime Minister noted. He pledged to do his best to bring into the talks the partners that support the cabinet in the Parliament.

“It is evident that a government cannot solve problems that are ten years old and older, within three or four months. Yet we agreed with the President and the others who attended the meeting to move forward not just to identify the problems but also to find solutions to them together. This will require systematic and strong efforts. The main burden will fall on the government, which will need support in the National Assembly and will make maximum use of the expertise of the institution of the president especially in the field of defense,” Acad. Nikolai Denkov said.
