Prime Minister at Paris International Space Summit first leaders’ panel: Bulgaria makes increasing contribution to European space community
To have a strong, sovereign and prosperous Europe, we must have a strong space ecosystem whose development requires the commitment and contribution of every member state. Bulgaria and the Bulgarian company EnduroSat are a brilliant example of how vision, energy, talent and willingness to work hard can enable one to become an increasingly important member of the European space community. This was stated by Prime Minister Rumen Radev in his intervention at the first leaders’ panel of the International Space Summit in Paris.
Bulgaria’s Prime Minister recalled that just twenty years ago space was the exclusive domain of great powers possessing financial and industrial potentials. However, today the situation has shifted owing to the advancements in Artificial Intelligence and data processing. EnduroSat started from scratch and today it ranks among European leaders in the design, development and manufacturing of satellites, Rumen Radev noted. The Prime Minister underscored that over the past few years the company has successfully developed, manufactured and launched into outer space small satellites that outnumber those of all European countries combined.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev specifically noted yesterday’s signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between EnduroSat and Arianespace: the signing ceremony was attended by Bulgaria’s Prime Minister and by the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron. “This landmark memorandum is not merely a sign of friendship and partnership; it is a shared commitment to promote Europe as a leading hub of space innovation,” Rumen Radev said. The Prime Minister noted, inter alia, that other Bulgarian companies make a significant contribution to the data systems of the European Sentinel satellite missions. “That would not have been possible without the European Commission’s strong support,” he said further.
The Prime Minister underscored the memorandum that was signed earlier this year on Starbase Europe for the implementation of an investment project for the Dobroslavtsi High-Tech Industrial Park and Space and Defense R&D Hub. The project plans the development of a high-tech industrial zone focused on space technologies, research and development, the aim being to promote investment, technology transfer, innovation and the creation of highly skilled jobs in Bulgaria.
“I would like to invite you to seize this opportunity and to join us as you share our vision and commitment to the development of space technologies of the future,” Prime Minister Rumen Radev said as he was addressing the International Space Summit participants. The Prime Minister noted that the role of space is associated not just with security, teamwork and friendship but also with prosperity and a lot of opportunities.
Later that day, Prime Minister Rumen Radev visited the Eclairion data center and was informed about its operations. Prior to the visit to the company’s headquarters, the Prime Minister underlined the cabinet’s targeted efforts to attract investment in high-tech sectors, particularly in AI development. “An important meeting is scheduled with European companies with which we actively collaborate in this sector. I hope we will see results soon,” Prime Minister Rumen Radev said further.
