To save the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and its funds intended for the country is as important as are the reforms related to them that the Bulgarians look forward to. This was stated by Prime Minister Rumen Radev when he met with Iliana Ivanova, member of the European Court of Auditors. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov and by the members of the European Court of Auditors Ivana Maletić and Alejandro Blanco Fernándes.
The Prime Minister noted that the Bulgarian government’s top priority continues to be reforms that bring long-term benefits to the society while the country’s recovered political stability provides the horizon needed for their implementation. Rumen Radev also pointed out that European funding is an important tool for development but that its efficiency depends on the consolation of the citizens’ trust in public institutions and on the implementation of policies and reforms that strengthen the rule of law, improve the quality of life of people and boost the country’s competitiveness.
Further Rumen Radev noted that the rules and conditions for the absorption of European Union funds should be identical for all member states and reiterated that Bulgaria expects that the new European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) will function in a way to make its funding available to less developed member states too. Otherwise, as the Prime Minister said, industrial and technological gaps in Europe will continue to deteriorate. Therefore, Rumen Radev again called for “industrial cohesion” within the EU and said that Bulgaria will insist on that at the negotiations on the approval of the next Multiannual Financial Framework of the Union.
