PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV: THE GREAT AMOUNT OF WORK DONE BY THE REPUBLIC OF NORTH MACEDONIA AND ALBANIA IS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT

18.10.2019

It is not over. The fact that we did not agree to have a written decision by the Council indicates that the vast majority of countries are in favor of the European perspective of the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in Brussels. The Prime Minister emphasized that the great amount of work done by both countries is taken into account. "They have always had our support," Borissov was certain. "Yes, there is fear of enlargement - that's the dispute about. But in no way did the Berlin process or this process end last night," said the Prime Minister and added: "Each country has its own logic, no one said “no”, everyone says “yes, but let them prepare as well as possible.” A few months are not an eternity.” Prime Minister Borissov noted that he had talked to his counterpart from the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev. "He has done a lot of work, but there is more to be done," Borissov underlined. He reminded that when Bulgaria made its civilizational choice, all political parties in the country were convinced that this was our European path.

With regard to the Multiannual Financial Framework that is to be discussed by the European leaders, Prime Minister Borissov noted that it is important to preserve cohesion and agriculture and to emphasize more on innovation and cybersecurity.

Asked by the media about the forthcoming European Report on the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism for Bulgaria, Prime Minister Borissov said he was optimistic. "We have achieved all of the recommendations. There is not a single word on which Brussels has asked for our decision and we have not complied with it," the Prime Minister said.

Responding to another journalistic question, Prime Minister Borissov noted that he had repeatedly put forward the idea for the government to support the development of youth football if the BFU drafted a program for it. "We are ready to talk, but not with this leadership," the Prime Minister said. Prime Minister Borissov also talked about his conversation in Brussels with his British counterpart Boris Johnson. "We stand against racism together," Borissov said, emphasizing the excellent relations Bulgaria has with the United Kingdom.
